How It All Started

In 2017, while staying with my youngest brother and his family in Jacksonville, Florida, I was given a visual idea about the power of combining education and sports. One afternoon, my 13-year-old nephew Prince and I came home from a bike ride and a few pickup games at the park. As soon as we walked in, he turned on his favorite social media channel, put on his music and headphones, and calmly sat down to do his homework.

Watching him, I asked, "How can you focus with all those distractions?" He just chuckled, looked at me with quiet confidence, and said, "I got this, Unk." I left him there working and went to take a quick nap. When I woke up, I kept seeing an image in my mind of a young teenager dribbling a stack of books like a basketball.

In that simple moment, I saw a deeper truth: the same focus it takes to handle the ball is the same focus it takes to handle the books—and that realization became the seed of a bigger idea.

Watching Prince balance his passion for basketball with his dedication to academics sparked something profound. He embodied what it meant to be a true student-athlete—someone who understood that success on the court and success in the classroom weren't separate goals, but two sides of the same coin.

Prince's parents created a foundation and atmosphere for him to be exceptional at academics and basketball. Their dedication to nurturing both his mind and his athletic abilities showed what's possible when a young person is given the support, structure, and encouragement to excel in all areas of life.

That moment in Jacksonville marked the beginning of what would become My Brain Dribbles Books—a brand born from witnessing a young person chase his dreams with equal parts athletic drive and intellectual curiosity.

Prince's Legacy

On September 11th, 2021, just five minutes from his high school, Prince's journey was tragically cut short. He was on his way to take his college prep course for Duke University—chasing his dreams with the same ambition and determination that inspired this brand. He wanted to be a sports physical therapist, combining his love for athletics with his desire to help others.

Why We're Here

This heartbreaking loss led My Brain Dribbles Books to pause for a season of healing. But today, we stand with renewed purpose—to honor Prince's memory, celebrate his unwavering ambition, and inspire dreamers everywhere to never give up.
